For me, it happened when I returned to Australia to retire. After spending 15 years living in the US—where bearing arms for personal protection was a legal luxury—I suddenly found myself back home, traveling solo in my caravan, facing a completely different reality.

Australia’s strict self-defense laws mean everyday women can’t rely on weapons for security. I was alone on the open road, loving the long evenings and the silence, but realizing I needed a new way to feel prepared. Legally, safely, and confidently.

What I discovered was simple: Women don’t want to feel scared. We want to feel ready.

I arrived late at a quiet caravan park. Walking alone to the amenities block in the pitch black, my heart tightened. Not because something bad was happening, but because I realized: if something did happen, I had zero options.
